Vintage Clip-Ons (Accessories)

Vintage earrings and clip ons found at the Vintage fair in Newcastle:

A very delayed post but it is here.
Back at the vintage Fair in May I noticed how commonplace vintage clip ons were, clearly a type of thing that was popular at this time as in shops now there tends to just be earrings or studs that fit an ear piercing.
I know incredibly little about vintage wares, but these really interested me:
Above a great selection of all kinds of clip ons, most of which seemed shape derrived from this flower like shape with between 5-8 points, some in shapes of hexagons, heptagons and octagons - creating beautiful shiny bloomage.
A few close ups of my favourites:
.
This pair form a star like shape, tapered of with points creating the octagon shape. The choice of blues is particularly interesting, one being pale and the other light - maybe they were meant to appear to be stars?
The brooch is particularly interesting with its glaze over the center that creates a boiled sweet like appearance and that beautiful border.

Below the slightly off white lines remind me of icing and the shapes themselves seem to imitate netting or lace of some kind. These would be my favourite simply with this reference to fabric.

The abundance in usage of beads in the photos is pretty sweet, it has been rare for me to see such beautiful arrays of earrings with such a high standard of design and look using beads to construct and define.

Victorian Design and Ornament - and I didn't have to do any research to find that out

I feel like I should have referenced this book Harvard style.
Any way here is what I got from Amazon:
Meyer's Ornament - Victorian Bible of Design by Frank Sales Meyer
In the library bookshelf above,
and got some pretty graphic golden lines below.
The 'O' in Ornament on the spine is known as illuminated text.
One of the earliest texts found with illuminated text is The Book of Hours.
A quick Google search of this will give you a wealth of words and images.
Blogger likes to rotate images no matter which camera I use,
I'm going to get to the bottom of this though.
The image in the corner here uses typical Victorian ornamental imagery.
The vine like lines that seem to have an attitude of movement about them,
almost like a clock face with the interruption of the
golden blocks that seem to divide the circular motif into pieces.

Above door decor - and the ryme thrown in for fun

On the way home one afternoon
I had to stop at this little bit of intricate (I believe metal work).
Photos are a bit blurry as this bit of work is situated above a door,
like a kind of mantel piece to a door actually.
The shapes and forms are clearly Victorian stylised motifs and shapes,
which twist and wind and curl around each other.

Random - because life can be like that

This is an old wallpaper design that has been painted over at home.
Shame...
I liked those random stains on them; the rings of brown.
Been busy with other stuff this week but now
I'm onto an idea:
On Friday 30th September I am going to post a special on Denim.
It will be a big spread made up of photographs taken by not only myself, but YOU,
(yes, you heard me I am not joking).
The subject is anything made of denim,
I know its short notice, but I still hope to get at least 10 photos to post on the last day of september.

Rules:
(you can't have civilisation without them)
1: No wearing of the denim in the photo itself
2: No imagery or words that are unsuitable for children on the denim/photo
3: Must be denim that is interesting in its pattern/marks/stitching/surface

Send these photos as attachments to:
patternandsurface@gmail.com

Also you can send more than 1 photo.
I will resize photos that are over 3MB
(see I'm very helpful when I want to be XD)
Your welcome to put a watermark or intitials on it
I will be putting names next to photos unless people request me not to in the body of the e-mail.

So I'm counting on you,
or you are counting on you. o_0
